Tina Greenbaum · For founders at the point of decision

The numbers are clear.
The decision isn’t.

That’s not a business problem.

I work with founders who are ready to sell but can’t pull the trigger. Not to talk them into it — to find out what’s really driving the hesitation, so they can make a decision they’ll be at peace with.

What no one puts on the agenda

A business can be ready for sale while its founder is not.

The valuation is known. The advisors have done their work. And still, nothing moves.

Under the hesitation sit identity, attachment, responsibility to family and employees, and fear of regret. None of it shows up on a term sheet — and most founders can’t explain it, even to themselves.

That’s because the body gets triggered before the mind. My work starts there: surfacing the unconscious patterns behind your biggest decisions, so you can see clearly what you already know.

In a client’s words

“I knew something needed to shift. I just couldn’t identify exactly what it was or how to move through it. Tina helped me see things I wasn’t able to see for myself.”

Your guide

Most advisors work on the decision. I work with the person making it.

I’m not an observer of founders. I’ve been one — five times. I built five businesses from the ground up, in Washington, D.C., Manhattan, San Francisco, Long Island and New Hampshire. I closed each one when the next chapter called, and took the last one online years before the rest of the world had to. I know what it takes to build something, and what it costs to let it go.

Along the way I’ve advised Wall Street financiers, bank presidents, fashion executives and artists at the top of their craft — people for whom who they are and what they do had become hard to tell apart.

My work sits one level beneath strategy. Most founders who find me can feel that something has to change. What they can’t see is what it is — or how to move without losing themselves. That’s what we uncover together.
